SIT ON SNOW

First Place Winner, Actions Challenge: What You Can Do with the City, Canadian Centre for Architecture,

Fadi Masoud, Magda Dobranowski, and Carla Pareja

This is an intervention that takes place on a wintry University of Toronto campus. It was meant to turn an everyday winter utility activity into an opportunity. Snow mounds that are several feet high and several feet wide encroach on the public right-of-way and take up valuable space from our public realm for several months a year. This action demanded we reclaim some of that space back. It finds opportunity in our street elements that are overlooked in our everyday life; especially in a winter city. Strategically chosen seats are carved out of these mounds and coated with water-proof thermo-pads.

This "action" was the winner of the Canadian Centre for Architecture Actions Challenge and was exhibited both at the CCA and at the 'Ville Mobile" exhibit of the Saint-√Čtienne Biennale in France.
